Shooting sports have long been a part of Ontario County's recreation. Sir James Mentieth and his friends once used glass balls filled with feathers as targets. Joe McKenna, a semi-pro baseball player opened a skeet range opposite Roseland Park only a few years after the sport was inverted.
In 1914 once hundred and fifty four sportsmens - doctors, lawyers, merchants and farmers incorporated this club under the present name for "the protection and propagation of fish and wildlife and the promotion of good sportsmanship." During the hunting season, the Webster house was filled with hunters and their dogs and this was the site of the first club meeting in 1914.
The earliest remembered trap range was located on the sucker brook and later on Lake Street in the city of Canandaigua. In 1946 the club bought its present location on Emerson Road in Canandaigua and built trap, skeet, pistol and rifle ranges and a clubhouse. More recently in the 1980's the club started holding competitive pistol matches and in the early 1990's constructed the sporting clays course. The new 5 - stand facility was completed in 2004.
